Observations Of A Dog Owner
Every day, as soon as I open my eyes and get out of bed, I am confronted with constant barking. My dog Mary knows that as soon as I am awake, it isn’t long before breakfast is served. And as soon as I put the food into her bowl, there is nothing that will stop her getting to her food. It’s almost as if she is constantly thinking about food. Food is an extremely important part of her life, in fact it is her priority.
But today I want to challenge us to really reflect on how we are making food, (more specifically, our spiritual food), a priority in our lives.
Firstly, are we loving God with all that we have? The Bible emphasises over and over that we are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and strength (Deuteronomy 6:5). Loving God is not just part of our Sunday routine, but we are to love Him every moment of everyday.
Secondly, we are to crave God’s word. Just like how my dog is constantly craving more food, I want to us to reflect on whether we are craving our spiritual food on a daily basis. We are told that those who delight and meditate on God’s word night and day are blessed (Psalm 1:2). So we should be craving to spend more time reading God’s word and it should be something we look forward to.
Lastly, we are not to let anything get in the way of our relationship with God. Our time with God can be easily reduced or pushed aside by our busy schedules, or of unexpected circumstances. No matter what happens, it is important to always make time for God.
Take a moment to reflect on how you can be growing in your love and knowledge of God this week. May I encourage you to put your thoughts into action. I am certain it will fill your week with much joy and peace.
