Money, Money, Money

Money.

No matter where we are in the world, no matter what level of income we have, we can all be enslaved by the love of money and struggle with wanting more of it. I have personally been a victim of someone’s love of money. I lost my own father to his gambling, and his desire of becoming rich. I saw his friendships fall apart from him cheating them of their money. I saw my own family struggle when we were robbed by him and left with nothing. I saw other families struggle as they invested large amounts of money but didn’t get anything back.

Maybe you haven’t experienced something as drastic as I have, or perhaps you have experienced something much worse. Pause and take a moment to reflect and ask yourself whether you are content with what you have right now. Or do you worry about how you can achieve a more stable and worry free life through making more money?

Desire for money… it tears families apart. It can cause people to do bad things. It can cause some to cheat others. It can cause some to steal. It can even cause some to kill.

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs” 1 Timothy 6:10

The love of money can destroy family relationships, tear up friendships but most importantly draw us away from our relationship with God. We need to ask God to help us be thankful for all that He has given us. We need to ask God to help us to find our hope and contentment in Christ. And we need to as God for wisdom to spend the money He is given us for His glory.

Dear God,

Thank you for your love and your grace. Help us to live each day with gratitude. Help us to find our contentment not in worldly things, but in Christ alone. Give us wisdom to use the money you have given us to help others and to use it for your glory. Give us generous and caring hearts, to make godly choices, to grow in godliness and to live each day in view of eternity.

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen.
