Compelled By The Love Of Christ

There are many reasons for not being a Christian. I don’t want someone else to tell me right from wrong and I certainly don’t want to be answerable to someone else. I am old enough to make decisions for myself. As well, I have better things to do with my Sundays than dragging off to church, and my money! I’ve got plenty of good uses for that.

Then, why am I a Christian? I have three primary reasons.

First, we live in an ordered world. Things happen according to laws, natural, physical, human. Anyone who is at all creative will know that if you don’t plan you reap chaos. We live in an ordered world, which implies that it is created and, being created, it must have a purpose.

Secondly, we cannot deny Jesus’ presence on this earth. While people can ignore this, it is a solid fact of history and because of the records handed down and their subsequent effect, we cannot avoid accepting the biblical account and the implications that follow.

Thirdly, there was a day when I was challenged by the truth of the gospel and I accepted the offer made by Jesus. I was born again! As I look back over my life, there are times when I neglected my part of the bargain but in hindsight Jesus was always there, watching over me and through the good times and the trials His purposes have always prevailed.

I have many reasons not to be a Christian but I am compelled by the love of Christ to serve him.
